Description

Best Fish and Chips in St Albert!

In Ireland, the classic dish of fish and chips is often affectionately known as "One and One." Fish and chips are to an Irish pub what chicken wings are to a North American bar/eatery.

At Dicey Reilly’s, we already take our food seriously and have earned a great number of positive reviews as a result. That’s why we strive to live up to a truly authentic Irish pub and serve up St Albert’s best fish and chips!

You’ll enjoy one piece of beer-battered cod along with your choice of our famous hand-cut fries, home fries or sweet potato fries served with coleslaw. Our coleslaw is no ordinary slaw either! Add an additional piece of fish for an additional charge.

A History of Fish & Chips in Ireland

In Ireland, the origins of fish and chips can be traced back to an Italian immigrant, Giuseppe Cervi, who unintentionally disembarked from a ship bound for North America in Queenstown (now Cobh) in County Cork during the 1880s.

From there, he embarked on a long journey to Dublin. Setting up a modest handcart, Giuseppe began selling fish and chips outside Dublin's bustling pubs. Eventually, he secured a permanent location on what is now Pearse Street, previously known as Great Brunswick Street.

With a warm smile, Giuseppe's wife, Palma, would greet customers with the question, "Uno di questa, uno di quella?" This Italian phrase, meaning "one of this, one of that," soon became a part of Dublin's local lingo, evolving into the now-familiar term "one and one." To this day, it remains a beloved way of referring to the classic combination of fish and chips in the city.
