As part of Sobeys Inc., a proudly Canadian company and wholly-owned subsidiary of Empire Company Limited, we’ve built a legacy of quality and passion since our roots were established in Stellarton, Nova Scotia.

Our Journey

Our story in the liquor industry began in 1993 when the Alberta Provincial Government privatized the liquor retail sector. Recognizing an exciting new opportunity to serve our communities, we launched Western Cellars and opened our first store in Spruce Grove in November 1995.

In 2014, we expanded our footprint by acquiring Safeway Wine & Spirits. Since then, Sobeys Liquor has grown to over 100 locations across western Canada providing a curated selection of beverages to suit every occasion.
