Founded in Toronto in 1977, Sunrise Records has proudly grown from a single storefront into one of Canada’s most iconic record store chains — a home for music lovers, collectors, and culture seekers alike.

From the golden age of vinyl to today’s revival of physical formats, Sunrise has remained committed to one thing: bringing people closer to the music they love.

A Canadian Legacy

Once standing alongside greats like HMV Canada, Music World, Sam the Record Man, and A&A Records, Sunrise has always been a cornerstone of the Canadian music scene.

In 2017, following HMV Canada’s closure, Sunrise Records stepped up to keep the music playing — acquiring 70 of HMV’s former locations and turning them into vibrant Sunrise stores across the country. Wherever possible, we retained former HMV employees, ensuring experience, passion, and music knowledge stayed alive.
