What is Baileys Irish Cream?

If you love liqueurs, you likely know of one of the most famous names in the industry, Baileys. Flavoured with a blend of cream, cocoa, and Irish whiskey, it is the original Irish cream having its beginnings in 1971 and being released in 1974. Its makers declare it to contain an alcohol content of 17%.

Baileys derives its name from a restaurant owned by John Chesterman. Mr. Chesterman granted permission to the distillery, W&A Gilbey, to use the name. The R.A. Bailey signature is purely fictional and was inspired by The Bailey’s Hotel in London. There is no apostrophe on the registered trademark.

There have been (and continue to be) a number of varieties of Baileys Irish Cream released over the years. With these varieties have emerged a number of delicious recipes. This page will feature a number of these throughout 2023.
